Flagstone Supplier in Pennsylvania

Natural clef pattern flagstone patio in full color.

Pennsylvanians are the envy of our neighbors in New England and the Chesapeake River Basin because of our native Pennsylvania Bluestone. Also called flagstone or slate, this stone creates a beautiful patio or walkway. Flagstone’s most popular shade is “full color” or variegated, but it is also available in blue and in lilac. Pattern flagstone is cut to standard sizes from 12” by 12” to 24“ by 36” in 6-inch increments. We carry pattern flagstone in natural cleft, thermal, and tumbled varieties, providing a huge range of textures and patterns.

The flagstone patio to the right is natural cleft pattern flagstone in full color that has been dry-set.  Note the range of sizes and colors. As a flagstone supplier, we will create a random mix of flagstone sizes to order or will design a specific pattern if requested.

The contractor or homeowner may select the specific pieces or Woodward Landscape Supply will assemble the pieces required for the order.

We stock natural cleft pattern in full color (as shown) in 1 1/2" or 1" thickness. Dry set applications generally use 1 1/2" grade (thickness varies between 1 1/4" to 3"), as the thickness is needed to avoid breakage. Wet set or mortared application generally uses 1" (1/2" to 1 1/4" thickness). The wet set process needs the thinner material to ensure a flat surface.

Natural Stone Landscape Materials - Irregular Flagstone

Where natural cleft flagstone separates by nature creating inconsistent thickness, thermal flagstone is cut into one specific thickness, 1" , 2" or most commonly 1 1/2" thick.  The thermal surface is created by flaming, leaving a flat consistent bubbled surface as shown to the left.

Irregular Flagstone

Irregular flagstone has the same texture and color options as pattern; however, its shape is completely irregular. Packaged vertically in a gated pallet, irregular flagsstone is frequently called "standup." In full color, standup can exhibit a huge range of beautiful color veins.  Woodward Landscape Supply permits customers to select a specific pallet from the dozens of pallets of irregular flagstone that we maintain in inventory.

Tumbled Flagstone

Tumbled flagstone is created by taking cut or broken pieces of flagstone and tumbling them in a machine similar to a dryer.  This process breaks off and rounds the edges and removes major irregularities from the surface, leaving a smooth texture.  The process creates a unique look but also adds significant cost.

Woodward Landscape Supply stocks natural cleft pattern in 1" and 1 1/2"; thermal pattern in 1 1/2; irregular in 1" and 1 1/2" in full color.  Full color will include blue and lilac veins. All blue or all lilac flagstone is avilable by special order.
