A few months ago, we wrote about the benefits of using manufactured stone veneer: it’s cost-effective, easy to work with and available in a range of styles and colors.
You’ll find many of the same things are true for manufactured stone pavers. If you’re considering tackling a paving project at home or at work, here are six reasons why manufactured stone pavers are the way to go.
1. They’re cost-effective
Compared to their natural stone counterparts, manufactured stone pavers are generally quite affordable, allowing you to focus more of your landscaping budget on other projects. The cost savings comes from the avoidance of production costs associated with quarrying, excavating, shaping and cutting.
2. They offer a range of colors and styles
When you work with natural stone, the selection of colors and styles at your disposal is a bit narrow. Your choices are essentially limited to whatever comes out of the ground. But with manufactured stone, your pavers can be any color or style you choose.
This range of color allows you to pick a paver design to better suit your needs. For example, if you’re paving the area around a patio or pool deck, you’ll want a lighter colored paver to provide a cooler surface for walking.
We should also note that concrete paver technology has advanced in recent years to the point that many of these pavers are almost indistinguishable from the natural stone variety.
3. They’re versatile
Manufactured stone pavers work well for both residential and commercial projects. You can use them in driveways and parking lots, sidewalks, patios, streets and even golf cart paths. They add visual appeal to virtually any property.
A word about paver design: the width of the space you’ll be using can help you figure out the shape of the pavers that will work.
For example, if you have a narrow yard, wide pavers will make your space seem even smaller. If you have a larger backyard, installing smaller pavers will take more time and therefore cost more.
4. They’re durable
Concrete pavers are more durable than standard poured concrete and asphalt, able to withstand years of wear and tear, even when used on heavy-traffic areas like driveways and sidewalks.
And when you work with interlocking pavers, you don’t have to worry about the surfaces cracks you’d see with traditional poured concrete. In colder climates like ours, manufactured pavers are a great choice. You won’t need to worry about damage from the yearly freeze/thaw cycle.
5. They’re low maintenance
You’ll need to do some maintenance on your manufactured stone pavers, like regular sweeping or an occasional rinse with the garden hose and removing weeds from between the joints. If the sand between the joints begins to dissipate, simply sweep new sand into the joints.
6. They’re weather resistant
Unlike poured concrete, which takes several days to cure, manufactured pavers are ready for you to use as soon as they set. They’re also slip resistant, thanks to their rough surface. When it snows, you don’t need to worry about damage from salt or shovels.
