About Downingtown PA
Originally settled by English and European colonists in the early 18th century, Downingtown has been a thriving community since its founding. Located in the heart of Chester County, the borough has a significant population of 7,946 as of 2015, representing steady growth since the town's founding. Originally known as Milltown, the borough was renamed in the 18th century for a prominent businessman by the name of Thomas Downing. The town became a center for commerce in Chester County, and the city has garnered a reptation for widespread and onoing renovations in an effort to beautify the city from a residential and commercial standpoint. One of the most famous occurences in Downingtown as the filming of the classic movie The Blob in 1958; festivals and celebrations of this film continue to take place to this day each year. As of the 2010 census, the median household income in the borough was $45,979.
